Our Camp Blue Sky programs are modified for the individual needs of high functioning special needs campers. No one is forced to participate in the activities, but all are encouraged to try new and different things to achieve a feeling of accomplishment. Our hope is that your child will leave Camp Blue Sky with a sense of independence, new friends, an ability to put his or her trust in others, and a sense of empowerment. Our dedicated, professional staff help create a nurturing environment and will only challenge your children by choice. Gentle encouragement is offered.
The director's enthusiasm and love of what they do pervade every area and every activity at Blue Sky. When the leadership loves their job, the staff loves theirs and it can only make for the perfect atmosphere to grow, learn and have a good time.
- Jennifer Grubb – Special Education Teacher
As any good camp director will tell you, the key to a successful summer is the quality of the staff. Maintaining a beautiful facility and implementing a dynamic program is only meaningful if our staff supports the mission of providing a safe and caring environment for our campers. We consider the selection of our counselors to be our most important responsibility as directors. We select sensitive and enthusiastic individuals who are dedicated to working with children. Our staff is composed of a strong core leadership group of educators, many of whom are parents as well, who care greatly about children and who are deeply committed to the principles upon which we stand.
As a recognized camp organization partnering with the YMCA and granted full licensing by the state of Michigan, we are fortunate to benefit from the generosity of charitable organizations ( MORC, CLS, CMH, and ARC ) to help offset the cost of camp for our Blue Sky Families. To apply for those funds, please contact your respite provider or community agency. Additionally, consider contacting agencies such as Lion's Club, Youth Assistance, Judson Center or Friends of Jacob or other philanthropic organizations.
